Egg, Sperm & Embryo Freezing

At the end of an IVF or ICSI procedure usually 1 to 3 embryos are transferred into the uterus with a possiblility of 40 to 60 percent success rate in pregnancy. Very often we are left with a surplus of good quality embryos which we can freeze by a procedure known as vitrification. Of all the surplus embryos the good quality embryos can be frozen and stored for use at a later date. The advantage of this is that in case of failure of implantation ( taking up of the embro by the uterus ) the preserved embryos can be transferred in the subsequent cycle after thawing ( defreezing ) at a fraction of the original cost with equal or more success rates. Also these embryos can be used at a later date as well when a second pregnancy is planned.

With the vitrification procedure, the embryo recovery rate after thawing is more than 95%.
